Larry Summers Steps Down from OpenAI Board
Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is departing from the directorate at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a batch of digital correspondence between him and notorious criminal the disgraced billionaire became publicly available.
Summers remarked in an announcement that he was "thankful for the opportunity to have contributed, excited about the prospects of the organization, and anticipate following their advancement".
Summers, who formerly presided over the Ivy League institution, declared on Monday that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

The freshly disclosed communications showed that Summers exchanged messages with the financier until the 24 hours preceding Epstein's 2019 apprehension for accused human trafficking of young people.
In another announcement, the technology organization expressed it accepted his decision to resign.

Legislative Background
This announcement comes after the two houses of the legislative branch decided on Tuesday to approve a measure that would compel the Department of Justice to release its files on Epstein.
The bill will afterward head to the desk of President Trump for endorsement. Trump has said he expects to sign the bill, after reversing his view on the subject following pushback from his followers.
Correspondence Findings
A batch of Epstein-connected correspondence disclosed by the legislative panel days ago mentioned numerous prominent individuals in the Epstein's former circle, without implying any illegal behavior by those individuals.
The communications revealed that Summers and Epstein regularly had dinners together, with the billionaire often trying to connect the official to prominent international personalities.

After the emails were released with the general audience, he expressed he accepted "total ownership for my ill-advised choice to persist in interacting with Jeffrey Epstein".
He added that he hoped "to rebuild confidence and fix connections with the people most important to me".

The professor occupied senior posts under party leaders; acting as treasury secretary under the former president, and as director of the White House economic team under Barack Obama.
He presided over Harvard from the early 2000s and continues to be a faculty member there. When announcing his step-down from public roles earlier on this week, he said he would continue his teaching commitments.
Further Repercussions
Following Summers' declaration on earlier this week, the policy organization, a left-leaning think tank in the capital where he was a senior fellow, confirmed that Summers was ceased to be associated with the organization.
The former official entered the directorate of OpenAI, which develops the language model, in last year - following a defeated move to replace its CEO Sam Altman.
