The Actress States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels fitting to comment publicly regarding the Trump government, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress
During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has spoken candidly about backing Republican and Democratic presidential nominees over the years. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the left-leaning politics and explaining she understood during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will make every effort to safeguard reproductive rights.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by the outcome.
“The second term seems distinct,” said she regarding his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
The actor is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her mental health in the countryside. At a press conference for the project in Venice, the star spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the declaration supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her work in Die, My Love. While the director has rejected the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after production wrapped.
“There was concern about my child,” she commented, “just picturing every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also mentioned of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
