World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.

The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of High Performance

Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.

Record-Breaking Numbers

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.

She received almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
